Our Why

Words From Our Founder - Dr. Gwendolyn Kines Mcleod

"Hi. I'm Gwendolyn Kines-Mcleod and I am the founder of Providence by Design, LLC. I have served my local community of Terrell, TX as a dentist for the last twenty years, so lots of people have asked me why I started a 3D concrete business, something I had no experience with. The answer is, it was a leap of faith.

I first came across a video of a concrete printer in 2019. I was immediately intrigued by the technology, and I could see a lot of possibility - stronger houses that are water resistant, fire resistant, termite resistant - and able to be built faster and less expensively than traditional housing.

In 2021, I began doing some ministering in the homeless camps in Dallas, and God lit a desire within me to try and do more for this community. As i learned how many foster children end up homeless, that desire burned brighter. 3D concrete printing seemed like the perfect solution for building tiny homes or duplexes, providing homes for teens aging out of foster care - so they never end up on the streets in the first place.

As someone who was blessed with two amazing parents, my heart hurts for those who never had that. I think about how difficult it is for a young person to build their life at 18 when they have a safety net. How do you do it when you are on your own?

After a lot of prayer, I felt led to go ahead and jump out of my comfort zone and move forward with starting this company. Its new technology, it involves a lot of R&D, and honestly, it can be tough being a pioneer in a new field. But when you are acting in faith and obedience to what God is calling you to do, you know that you are never alone!

Each day on this journey brings new challenges, but we meet them all head on, because each day gets us closer to our goal. And it is truly a labor of love. We look forward to sharing our journey with you."

LEAP OF FAITH

Providence by Design was created out of a deep recognition of the growing need for safe, stable, and accessible housing in our communities. Across Texas and beyond, too many individuals including veterans, aging - out foster youth, and those experiencing homelessness face uncertainty simply because they lack a place to call home. We believe housing is more than shelter; it is the foundation for dignity, stability, and opportunity.
Built on faith and driven by purpose, our mission is to develop innovative 3D printed construction solutions that can one day help meet this need at scale. While we are currently focused on refining our systems through structural printing and small - scale projects, every step we take is intentional laying the groundwork for a future where efficient, accessible housing can become a reality for those who need it most.
At Providence by Design, we are committed to using our skills, technology, and resources to build with purpose creating not just structures, but opportunities for restoration, stability, and lasting impact.
